Colombia se ubica en el extremo noroccidental de América del Sur y tiene costas en el Pacífico y en el Atlántico. Atravesada de sur a norte por los Andes que, cerca de la frontera meridional se dividen en tres ramales: Cordilleras Occidental, Central y Oriental.

El Eje Cafetero está en el corazón de la cordillera central de Colombia. El mejor café de Colombia crece aquí debido a la altitud, la temperatura estable y las lluvias constantes, lo que permite el florecimiento y la cosecha de los granos de café durante todo el año. Las fincas cafeteras en la región, en su mayoría, son fincas familiares que han conservado por más de un siglo la tradición cafetera.

Colombia ocupa el primer lugar a nivel mundial en diversidad de aves y mariposas. El Eje Cafetero, como parte de la cordillera central de los Andes, presenta una riqueza de estas especies particularmente alta (ver: Sendero de observación de aves de los Andes centrales).

Colombia is located at the northwestern tip of South America and has coasts on the Pacific and the Atlantic. It is traversed from south to north by the Andes, which divide into three branches near the southern border: the Western, Central, and Eastern Ranges.

The Eje Cafetero is in the heart of Colombia’s Central Range. The best of Colombian coffee is grown here due to the altitude, stable temperatures, and steady rainfall, which allows year-round flowering and harvesting of coffee berries. Coffee farms in the region are mostly small family farms that carry a century of coffee-growing tradition.

Not only is Colombia number one in the world for diversity of birds and butterflies, but the Eje Cafetero, as part of the Central Andes, has a particularly high species richness (see: Central Andes Birding Trail).

El Eje Cafetero tiene un clima templado con temperaturas que varían muy poco durante el año. La temperatura promedia es de 22°C todo el año. En las noches la temperatura puede bajar a un promedio de 15°C y durante el día la sensación térmica promedio es de 27°C.

The Eje Cafetero has a moderate weather with temperatures that vary little throughout the year, with an average temperature of 72°F year-round. The night time temperatures drop to an average of 60°F and during the day the average temperature reaches 80°F.
